Master Bedroom Shelves

Devin and I hung two small white shelves in our bedroom. That wall was feeling too empty and I wanted to make use of the shelves because they were collecting dust in a closet. In our previous apartment these shelves were holding spices in the kitchen.

bed shelve 1I love having another spot to showcase special items. It’s also nice to have a place to set an alarm clock or glass of water since we don’t have night stands.bed shelve 2The framed quote says, “Twenty years from now you’ll be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain. I got it from the parent of a first grade girl I used to play with when I was in eighth grade. The mom hand-wrote the quote over one of her daughters paintings. It was such a special gift to get and I love the reminder to live large, especially now!bed shelve 3That rose is another sentimental item. It’s actually made out of palm-tree leaves. I got it when I lived in Savannah, Georgia while I was going to Savannah College of Art & Design before I transferred to Moore College of Art & Design in Philly. A man would make these small but beautiful treasures and sell them and he gave this one to me for free. I guess I keep it because it’s a flower that never dies, it’s pretty, and it reminds me to always trust my gut. I wasn’t happy at SCAD and deciding to transfer was the first major life decision I made on my own. The rose reminds me that when I follow my intuition I choose the path I’m supposed to be on.bed shelve 4The bedroom corner has continued to make me smile since we put up the shelves!
